Samuel ministered TO the LORD before Eli… NOT…
THE MAIN POINT:
“Samuel ministered TO the LORD before Eli…” NOT…
‘Samuel ministered to Eli and the people before the Lord.”
TO THE LORD
1 Samuel 3:1 has recently been super-highlighted by the ‘Lead Worshipper’ circles I run in…
“Now the boy Samuel ministered to the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was rare in those days; there was no widespread revelation.” [1 Sam 3:1 NKJV]
The simple bit is that the up-and-coming prophet Samuel learned to minister TO The Lord before Eli.
Samuel, who had direct conversations with GOD…
Samuel, who was ‘God’s lawyer’ and Judge to move Israel into monarchy…
Samuel, as prompted directly by the Lord, anointed David through prophetic insight…
THE MODERN MODEL
The vast majority of modern Church worship and adoration is structured that Lead Worshippers minister to the Eli/people before the Lord… [sorry, but…]
Especially if that Church is stuck in an Invitational model… worried what people think.
A ‘Presence-Focused Church’ lives by the driving desire to ‘minister to The Lord’ first and foremost, caring little what people think or ‘adjusting’ their gatherings to please people.
It’s all about the practical focus, the lyrics, the talk-talk between songs, the attitude of the band and singers, the leaders and pastors.
[One quick ‘check’ to see if this set is ‘to Eli and the people’… lot’s of “C’mon, Church!” and general cheer-leading, coupled with many songs about God in the Third person and all about “I” [‘I’m hurt and lonely, but I’m looking for Him…]
As a ‘Lead Worshipper’, I have been pastored and mentored by many, many people, some with names you would recognize.
The lesson I’ve learned from them, and understanding the ‘call’ on the Church stepping into the New Great Awakening IS: minister TO The Lord before Eli and the people.
The Audience of One.
Total God-focused worship and adoration.
Unto the Lord only.
It is amazing what happens in that focus-shift…
