Pitching the Tent of David 2023

Lost in Wonder and Mystery

First and foremost, an apology.

I have not been posting much on this Blog.

It’s not that I haven’t been studying and digging and writing… I’ve done more of that in the last 6 months than the previous 6 years… BUT I have been so buried in the mystery, depth and wonder of these two areas, I’ve had a hard time organizing my Blog-thought.

Those two areas are:

~The Manifest Presence of God, and how that shows up with His people. That’s where Tent of David comes in.

~How God communicates with us, how we communicate with Him, and where that goes right, and many times how that can go wrong… and how that ties with the Tent of David.

Tent of David. Super-super key.

I’m kinda obsessed with digging and knowing as much as I can about Tent of David Scripturally and theologically… BUT more than a head-trip, I want to seriously ‘taste and see’ {tasting=experiencing, seeing=perception’ [reff: Psalm 34]}.

Anyway, time to bring this all back on track.

It’s time to pitch a Tent!

Time for the Re-established Tent of David

Malcolm Muggeridge wrote a fantastic book called ‘A Third Testament’ that proposes God is writing a new history for the Church that builds on the two ‘closed’ cannons of Scripture (Old and New Testaments). He says we need a Third Testament.

Tent of David may be it!

God is doing a new thing on the earth… restoring Davidic worship will be one of His ways to bring it about.

A ‘modern-day prophetic voice’ I follow on InstaGram, Nate Johnson, recently prophesied, “Over the next few years, we will see the greatest emergence of Davidic worshipers and creative pioneers that we have ever seen. These will be a company of God-lovers who have laid down their lives for Jesus. They will lead the Church into the Inner Courts of God.”

That means Tent of David will be the focal point.

Refresher

If you need a basic refresher on the Tent of David, allow me to direct you to some previous Blogs I have posted.

[If you’re joining my ‘Restoring the Tent of David’ COURSE, here is the reading list]:

Key Scriptures: Tent of David

^^ 1 Chronicles 16

And they brought in the ark of God and placed it inside the tent which David had pitched for it, and they offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before God. When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord. Then he distributed to everyone of Israel, both men and women, to everyone a loaf of bread, a portion of meat, and a raisin cake.

He appointed some of the Levites as ministers before the ark of the Lord, to celebrate and to thank and praise the Lord God of Israel: Asaph the chief, and second to him Zechariah, then [a]Jeiel, Shemiramoth, Jehiel, Mattithiah, Eliab, Benaiah, Obed-edom, and Jeiel, with musical instruments, harps, and lyres; also Asaph played loud-sounding cymbals, and the priests Benaiah and Jahaziel blew trumpets continually before the ark of the covenant of God.

^^ 2 Samuel 6

The Ark Is Brought to Jerusalem

12 Now it was reported to King David, saying, “The Lord has blessed the house of Obed-edom and all that belongs to him, on account of the ark of God.” So, David went and brought the ark of God up from the house of Obed-edom to the city of David with joy. 13 And so it was, that when those carrying the ark of the Lord marched six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened steer. 14 And David was dancing before the Lord with all his strength, and David was wearing a linen ephod. 15 So David and all the house of Israel were bringing up the ark of the Lord with joyful shouting and the sound of the trumpet.

16 Then it happened, as the ark of the Lord was coming into the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looked down through the window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she was contemptuous of him in her heart.

17 Now they brought in the ark of the Lord and set it in its place inside the tent which David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord. 18 When David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of armies. 19 Further, he distributed to all the people, to all the multitude of Israel, both to men and women, a cake of bread, one of dates, and one of raisins to each one. Then all the people left, each to his house.

^^ Isaiah 16

A throne will be established in faithfulness,
And a judge will sit on it in trustworthiness in the tent of David;
Moreover, he will seek justice,
And be prompt in righteousness.

^^ Amos 9

11 “On that day I will raise up the fallen shelter of David,
And wall up its gaps;
I will also raise up its ruins
And rebuild it as in the days of old;
12 So that they may possess the remnant of Edom
And all the nations who are called by My name,”
Declares the Lord who does this.

^^ Acts 15, which pulls Tent of David into the New Testament

James’ Judgment

13 After they stopped speaking, [g]James responded, saying, “[h]Brothers, listen to me. 14 Simeon has described how God first concerned Himself about taking a people for His name from among the Gentiles. 15 The words of the Prophets agree with this, just as it is written:

16 ‘After these things I will return,
And I will rebuild the fallen [i]tabernacle of David,
And I will rebuild its ruins,
And I will restore it,
17 So that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord,
And all the Gentiles [j]who are called by My name,’
18 Says the Lord, who [k]makes these things known from long ago.

Some important historical notes and facts:

– The Tent of David, once established in Jerusalem on Mt Zion by David [around 1030 BCE] remained in that location for just over 40 years, until Solomon [and priests] moved the Ark into the newly built Temple on Mt Moriah, in Jerusalem. After that, it became something of historic reference and prophetic utterances in the Old Testament.

-When David moved the Ark into the tent, the Tabernacle of Moses continued to function in Gibeon, with its animal sacrificial system, but without an Ark in the Holy of Holies. [Actually, the Ark was captured by the Philistines around 1102 BCE, while Eli was High Priest at Shiloh (see 1 Sam 4)… and the Ark never returned to the ‘Tabernacle of Moses’ after that, until the Tabernacle was shut down at the opening of Solomon’s Temple in 991 BCE].  The animal-sacrificial system then moved to the Temple. [Of interest, the Ark seems to float out of the Old Testament account, and is nowhere mentioned at the captivity, OR the rebuilding of the Temple under Zerubbabel/Ezra/Nehemiah].

-The structure David used was clearly a TENT: quote…  “1Ch.15:1 “In the city of David [on Mt Zión] he prepared a place for the ark of God and pitched a tent for it.”  That Hebrew term for “tent” is óhel, Strong’s h168.  The Greek Septúagint term is skené g4633.

Unlike Moses’ tabernacle, the tent of David wasn’t a structure. So, the tent of David is never referred to as a mishkán h4908 in the OT.  David’s enclosure was just a tent.  Whereas Moses’ tabernacle was a mishkán wooden frame structure (with curtains and a tent roof). (courtesy of blogger ‘BibeExpo’) End quote.

In other words, there was a TENT, with the ARK OF THE COVENANT sitting right in the middle. Total, open access. What was hidden from view in the Tabernacle of Moses by a thick curtain and priests was made bare-bones-in-the-open by David in Zion. Yes, David ordered a huge worship ministry with thousands of priests and musicians and keepers, but anyone could go to the TENT and enter it, sit down in the dirt and be face-to-face with the BOX OF GOD, where HE promised He would maintain His Presence, just like the Cloud and Pillar in the desert [“Then have them make a sanctuary for Me, and I will dwell among them” (Exodus 25:8) said God.]

-Where is the physical Ark right now?

Revelations 11:19 says

the prophet saw God’s temple in heaven opened, “and the ark of His covenant was seen within His temple.”

[Also remember, 1 Cor 6:19, “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own?”]

Unpack the Tent

So, dear reader, be prepared; blogs on the way… let’s unpack this TENT OF DAVID thing.

Being written, soon to be Blogged: a careful Scripture History related to the Tent of David + Manifest Presence of God tied together.

Stay tuned.

TAKE-AWAY: FINAL THOUGHT

In prayer recently, I was re-visiting in my memory a number of ‘worship experiences’ I’ve had over the last few months, both ‘live’ and ‘on-line’. These gigs were all ‘above and beyond’ regular Sunday services at churches. Worship nights. Worship concerts. Encounter nights. Prayer nights. House of Prayer gigs. Gatherings. Tent of David gatherings {some associated with Awaken the Dawn-David’s Tent stuff, all surrounding Sukkot this year… the ‘Feast of Booths’…].

Memory kicked in with a few incredible moments ‘in the Secret Place’…

I sensed the ‘still small Voice’ stirring in my soul during this memory-lane moment.

“Want to know where I really want the Tent of David well-established?’ He asked.

“Where, Lord?” I replied.

Space. Pause.

Then, “Right here, deep in you. You heart. Your soul. Your mind. Your strength. Face to face.”

“That’s the Tent I want to fill.”

Yep. Amen.
