Discipleship Data [d 103]
THE MAIN POINT:
FOURTY percent of American Christians in 2022 admit to not being disciple at any level.
DATA ON DISCIPLESHIP
I did some internet-diving on ‘data on discipleship’.
My go-to about this is clearly from Barna research group.
Here are the two of the top articles that came up with recent data:
There are some amazing break-downs in ‘barriers and obstacles’ to people being in discipleship… future Blog…
Top research take-aways?
-Importantly, these were actual congregants. Rubber-meets-road Church-going people.
[I’ll do a Take-Away on that important distinction later].
-In 2022, two in five Christians are not involved in ANY type of discipleship.
That’s 40%.
Period.
-In 2022, ONLY 28% of Christians surveyed are involved in ANY form of a Discipling Community…
That’s roughly 30%.
-Discerning ‘what constitutes a Discipling Community’ is pretty wide-open in form and format, with no clear defining characteristics.

SOME TAKE-AWAYS:
-I talk to a great number of leaders and pastors. In my general conversations [no hard data], they would overwhelmingly disagree with Barna’s findings and claim that their Church or Ministry’ capture would be much, much larger, probably in the mid-80%.
Of course, Barna has consistently shown that Christian leaders and pastors historically work out of a huge dis-connect between ‘what they think/believe’ is going on in their flocks, and the ‘reality of the actual congregation’.
-My biggest take-away from the data; wow, we might be in trouble IF the Harvest is huge…
