<>ANGELS ON ASSIGNMENT?

I’m finding that growing up in the 80’s ‘Jesus Movement’ had some negative consequences. One of those was a journey through a book by Roland Buck called ‘Angels on Assignment’. Because Roland mixed some [OK] Biblical teaching on the activity of angels with some of his own un-filtered experiences that he called ‘angelic visitations and revelations’, the book was enthusiastically received by some, vehemently rejected by others as heretical, and created a negative-feedback loop for many of us… when we now hear anything about the action of angels amongst us, well…

How many times are Angels mentioned in Scripture?

365…

In the Scriptures, are Angels the soft and squishy creatures we see in TV shows, children’s books and greeting cards?

Ohhh, no. Definitely not.

<>YES, ANGELS

What are angels really like? In Hebrew, they are called “mal’akh”, meaning ‘messenger’, but they take on other roles such as protector, warrior, guide, defender, provider, even cooks.

When human eyes are permitted to see them, they are very, very big and imposing creatures… they scare just about person they come in contact with… hence, the constant “fear not!” when they show up.

There are levels and types of Angels that are also part of the ‘workings of Heaven’, and their Biblical descriptions make most TV Sci-Fi aliens look… well, tame…

Because of all the goo and gook about Angels, have the followers of Jesus in today’s world basically taken a “that’s nice, but…” approach to the understanding and acceptance of Angelic activity in our lives?

Definitely.

<>WHY ANGELS NOW?

Well, they’ve always been about us, doing the tasks that God sends them to do.

I’ll have to confess, around our house, we regularly ask in prayer for the Lord to send them to help us, especially driving about in foreign countries… something we’ve called ‘traveling mercies’ for a long time…

Perhaps, He’ll start opening our eyes to see how He answers these prayers in that same shocking way He did to Elisha’s servant:

16 “Don’t be afraid,” the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more than those who are with them.”

17 And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

2 Kings 6:16-17

<>BUT NOW…

In recent days, there has been a prophetic word going out across the Church that says,

“the Lord is about to increase Holy Angelic activity amongst you… prepare yourself to see, experience, and receive it!”.

This ‘word’ has rung out at conferences, leaders’ gatherings and other places where Worshipers are locking into the Presence of the Lord.

<>WAS THAT AN ANGELIC VISITATION?

QUESTION: Have you had a clear Angelic visitation? What happened?

I’d like to ‘prime the pump’ for YOUR Angelic visitation… and to help you sort it out…

WHEN you have something very powerful and real happen to you… a sudden ‘save’ from catastrophe, a weird event that ends up saving your life or something important, some special help in a desperate situation, AND… you sense a ‘presence’ of a person with you, but can’t see anybody… ASK, “were you sent by King  Jesus to help me?”

Be prepared for an answer to the question.

Just to help… keeping things in perspective…

Now when Joshua was near Jericho, he looked up and saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in his hand. Joshua went up to him and asked, “Are you for us or for our enemies?”

“Neither,” he replied, “but as commander of the army of the Lord I have now come.” Then Joshua fell facedown to the ground in reverence, and asked him, “What message does my Lordhave for his servant?”

The commander of the Lord’s army replied, “Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.” And Joshua did so.

Joshua Ch 5:13-15

TAKE-AWAY:

<>Scripturally, I want to add a bit about the ‘testing of spirits’ into this. Yes, evil spirits will show up, and try to masquerade as God’s Angels… but they will NEVER ask you to do any sin or evil, and they will always lead to radical Worship of Jesus Christ, the one who God sent to us (2 Cor 11:13-14, 1 John 4:1-4).

<>Yes, it happened… writing this Blog, I had a true Amy Grant blast-from-da-past moment… the song ‘Angels Watching Over Me’

Can’t shake the final line: “tho I never see with human eyes the hands that lead me home… [da da da daaa!]”

But… I think this will be a season where the Lord will allow us to see His servants, the Angels… the Captain of His Army… the Helping Hands…
