MUTL (a Secret Superpower)

This Blog is going to get personal.

Disclaimer: Phil 3:12 sez it perfectly…

“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already arrived at my goal, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me…”

Yeah, it’s a journey…

~~WEEKLY

Back in 2017, I tripped into a great video of Paul Baloche teaching at WorshipU (Bethel Music) on ‘habits of a solid lead- worshipper’ (actually, that’s my title for what he taught…). He was strongly encouraging that us worship-leading-types should, once a week (or more!) go somewhere private and engage an hour with God and God alone… just Him, yourself, your Bible and your key worship-leading instrument… yes, some paper and pen are OK to jot notes

His ‘key Scripture’ for this endeavor was 1 Chronicles 16, especially verse 4:

“He (King David) appointed some of the Levites to minister before the ark of the Lord, to extol, thank, and praise the Lord, the God of Israel…” (NIV)

[PaulB’s Commentary: Some translations of 1Chron 16 say that the Levites were given three tasks, to make petition, to give thanks and to praise the LORD… we were even given a song to sing with this… it began, “Give thanks to the LORD, call on His name; make known among the nations what He has done. Sing to Him, sing praise to Him; tell of all His wonderful acts (1 Chron 16:8-9)”

There’s also a harmony of 1 Chronicles 16 and 1 Timothy 2:1, which says; “I (St. Paul) urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people–  ]

Petitions… give thanks… praise the LORD.

~~MUTL: Minister Unto The Lord

PaulB, in his usual too-many-expressos fashion, un-packed the fundamental truth that we can only minister publically what we’ve encountered from the Lord ‘in the secret place’, and that this ‘hour of power’ is the deep well that will grow and sustain a worship leader long-term in God’s House. It’s also the calling of each ‘modern Levite’, and as we enter into this Holy and Sacred service in the Presence of God, we discover the amazing privilege and Presence of ministering ‘unto the Lord’ directly, no veils or barriers… as it was in this new and radical form of worship that King David initiated.

SO, back in 2017, I took his throw-it-down challenge to everyone in that teaching session… at least once-a-week, with the help of the Holy Spirit, I will engage a MUTL time.

And THAT point in time, my friends, that radically changed the course of my life.

It’s my weekly Presence-transfusion.

It’s my regular attitude-adjustment.

It’s become the secret of my super-power.

The effects on my life have been… well, miraculous.

~~GETTING CLOSER

OK, true confessions. I hit the ‘dedicated hour alone with my Bible and my guitar’ about two-thirds of the time. The other ‘third’ usually involves some alone-spot, some worship music and at-least 30 minutes… I’m working up to the ‘full hour of MBTL’ every week, without fail.

Two-thirds… Phil 3:12…

~~UNEXPECTED

What I’m encountering is totally and completely un-expected:

<>I am making ‘preferential choices’ to NOT do certain things, and to ‘fit in’ the MUTL time, even in the middle of a super-busy schedule

<>The more I do it, the easier it becomes

<>The more I find that I WANT, even NEED the MUTL-time

<>I open the MUTL time by opening the Scriptures to where I’ve been reading in my ‘daily devotions’, and go into a ‘know-by-heart’ song

<>With increasing regularity, I can sense the manifest Presence of the Father, right-out-of-the-gate

<>I also find my ‘petition-give thanks-praise the Lord’ approach deepen my posture of worship

<>When I get started, I have no issue with taking a whole hour

There’ve been a number of other things that are happening, like the ‘burnt offering songs’ that get sung, deeper connection with prophetic song, finding how ‘praise is the highway’ to break-through in things my heart thought were difficult…

MUTL is also helping me to approach a face-to-face with the Lord that is NOT about preparing a lesson, or a worship song or anything else, other than… well, ministering unto the Lord as one of His kids who wants to be in His Presence…

TAKE-AWAY

MUTL… it’ll change everything!
